Dear Professor,
Your interpretation of the rumour about my son was of course quite correct, though I hope that it is a happy forecast of what we expect in another six week's time.
We had a very restful Xmas holiday at Elsted and have returned to work with fresh vigour.
I will of course let you know when I hear from Kann.
I have not yet heard from Egerton as to which articles he is translating and have sent him a sharp reminder. But I am practically certain he will do none from Vol. I, so that Anna and Rickman can safely do any from this volume. A propos Rickman, the case I describe in the double number of the Journal is from his wife, with of course her consent. Is it not a pretty one?1
Of course I think the Five Lectures should be rescued, as you well call it, if possible and on getting your letter I wrote to the American publisher. I trust you will approve of my actions in regard to the McCann piracy.
My wife and I thank you very warmly for your kind New Year's wishes and reciprocate most heartily.
yours always affectionately
Ernest Jones.
