International Journal of Psycho-Analysis
17 January 1922
London
Dear Professor,
Dr. Carver of Birmingham,1 an able man, but distinctly ambivalent in his attitude towards Psa. wanted me to analyse him some time ago, but then withdrew. He now writes to me from Switzerland to ask whether I know if you have any vacancy for someone who wishes to learn technique, but he speaks of only paying a short visit to Vienna for the purpose. I have written to him telling him to write to you direct.
A Mr. Cuming from Egypt, half English and half Greek, with a severe obsessional neurosis and also homosexuality, consulted me but baulked at the fee, so I suggested that he should go to Vienna where he could live more cheaply than in England. Actually he is a well-to-do and extravagant youth who could easily afford three guineas. He begs me to write to you and find out whether you are likely to have any vacancy. He would, if necessary, postpone treatment so as to come to you.
