12 March 1923
Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
Dear Jones,
I thank you very much for your kind answer and decision of which I am ready to avail myself. I thought I had been clear, but I see some confusion arose from my mentioning that L & K were in the habit of sending the duplicate accounts to Martin. In fact I had given them his adress in the place of my own as he is in a bank (“Treuga”) and letters to him could not look suspicious, but I had not substituted him to you nor sent in his signature. Until now nothing has been changed.
It is the following I request you to write to Lissa & Kann: That you resign your right of disposal of the account, which keeps your name, in favour of Dr. M. F., to whom alone reports should be sent. Martin will send them a sample of his signature from Vienna. That is all. You have made it simple by granting the use of your name.
I had no doubt you would provide the money to my wife at the due time, but it would not be needed at once, only in small lots, and if Martin was not in, every letter had to go from Vienna to you, and from London to the Hague, a nuisance to you and no profit, only delay to my heirs. So I came to the conclusion, I needed nothing of you but your name.
I am glad of your regular separate letters and hope common success may soon wipe out the memory of the latest dissensions. In the affair of Brill's money I had to side with you although your report permitted correction in some points.1
Yours affectionately
Freud
