Dear Professor,
I have received your second letter about Lissa Kann and find it quite clear. I enclose a copy of the instructions I have sent them and hope they are exactly according to your wish.
I was glad you liked my Communication on the Nature of Desire.1 There are hundreds of occasions to which one could respond by a similar paper, but I only permit myself to react very rarely, for otherwise it wastes so much time.
I am going to ask you a great favour, and an unusual one, namely whether you will be so good as to read through a paper of mine before I publish it.2 The reason is this: on exploring the subject of auto-suggestion I find one could not avoid dealing with some of the fundamental questions about the mechanism of healing in both suggestion and psycho-analysis. It would of course be inadvisable for me to publish it if it contained any serious error on such an important matter, so perhaps I may feel justified in encroaching on your time to this extent. The first part of the paper can be skimmed through rapidly, being mainly of historical interest; it is the last half dozen pages that matter.
Hiller arrived yesterday, but so far I have only been able to see him for a few minutes.
With my best thanks in anticipation,
Yours affectionately,
Ernest Jones.
