Dear Professor,
I hasten to answer your card about Israel Levine because you are probably waiting to write to him. His work is a gratifying sign of the wide interest now being taken in psycho-analysis by English psychologists and philosophers. I have not met him personally, but have corresponded extensively with him and will tell you what I know about him.
He is lecturer on philosophy at University College, Exeter, Devonshire, a small provincial College. His race you can guess from his name. It was he who gave the lecture on you at the University of London in the series under the auspices of the Jewish Historical Society of which I reported some time ago in a Rundbrief. His present book is partly an outcome of that lecture and is, I think, intended as a graduating thesis, for which purpose I do not doubt it will be successful. I may say that I advised him all through the writing of it and afterwards extensively revised it myself. From the numerous alterations and corrections I had to make I came to the conclusion that the writer was an impetuous young man, rather juvenile and very uncritical, but with the valuable trait of eagerness. I hope he will proceed along the path he has begun and shall of course keep in touch with him.
The copies of my Essays have not yet reached London. I think the only part of them with which you are not familiar would be the paper on Ireland and some interesting additions I made to the Hamlet Essay.1 I shall have to send my Auto-Suggestion paper to the printers in a week or two and so am anxious to know whether you feel inclined to propose any alterations in the last couple of pages about which you wrote. I do not know if you think it worth while publishing in the Zeitschrift; if so I would send a fresh copy with some changes in it.2
The Double Number of Parts 1 and 2 of the Journal should appear before the end of this month and the material for the third, July
