Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
Dear Jones,
One day before I got your dear wife's letter I heard of your operation and felt rather struck by the seriality. I expect a permanent improvement of your health to come out of your experience as a patient, while incomplete recovery is all I am entitled to expect from mine. There is so much work before you and so many good claims on life that I prefer to think of your illness as a short,—I hope not too unpleasant—episode.
Affectionately yours
