Dear Professor,
I was very much grieved at getting your card this morning and hearing of your little grandson's death. How well I remember your shewing us in Vienna the photographs of him and his brother; it was plain what a deep hold he had on your heart. I think too of the distress the event must have caused your wife and Anna, not to speak of the poor father. Sophie at least has been spared the blow. The boy now lives not only in the memory of his family, but also immortally as the author of the Fortsein in your Jenseits—unless I mistake.1
What occupies me at the moment is the Journal and the preparations for the Oxford Congress2—quite enough.
With my deepest sympathy, also to your family,
Yours always affectionately
Ernest Jones.
