18 December 1923
Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
Dear Jones,
I have now familiarized myself with the situation between Verlag and Press, and can assure you that in regard to the four books you mentioned, the Verlag will be no more difficult than I and my American rights. You therefore need not let this uncertainty hold you up in your work.
However, Rank thinks that this point cannot be decided on its own, but
is connected with those relations between Verlag and Press, which are to be settled in the contract now under negotiation. But I repeat that there is no doubt about his agreement with your wishes.
I am actually recuperating from my various operations, but my prosthesis is not ready yet; I am not master of my time and can therefore not yet resume work.
With cordial greetings to you and your dear family.
Yours truly
Freud
P.S. I informed J. [I.] Levine (Exeter) that we want to publish his “Unconscious” in German translation.1
