Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
Dear Jones,
Today I am only asking you for information. You wrote to me on 30 May that you had successfully sold the publications of the Press, including my Sammlungen, to Hogarth Press. Rickman told me a few days ago that the Press could sell its works to a firm (I do not know if it is the same one) if my American rights were sold with them, and he therefore asked me to give my consent to this. Today Rank writes to me that he has heard from you that you have already sold the books concerned, as well as the Sammlungen, to an English firm. These three reports do not tally at all; there is complete contradiction between the second and the third. According to Rickman's information, I am requested to let my American rights be sold; according to your letter to Rank, this has already happened. I am at a loss and request an explanation.
I must ask you to bear in mind that after my last decision I withdrew the American rights of my books from the Press and handed them over to Dr. Rank for disposal. You must therefore come to an understanding with him.
With cordial greetings
Yours
Freud
