Dear Jones,
The first volume of the Collection, announced by Mrs. Riviere, was a joy and a surprise for me. I admit to having been mistaken. I underestimated either my life span or your energy. The prospects which your letter open up to me regarding subsequent volumes seem really splendid, but I still doubt whether you can overcome the obstacle that Strachey poses. With these volumes you have taken on an enormous workload.
It is essential that I must not forget to tell you that I find your preface masterly. Every word in it is right and fitting.1
