Dear Jones,
I have to agree that you are absolutely right: I always used to read the publications of our Verlag, and formerly those of Deuticke, at the proof stage. In a way that is no longer comprehensible to me today, but probably due to overwork in those days, I unfortunately neglected to check your Nightmare. I distinctly remember that I read only the introductory chapters. The following suggestion may repair the damage, as far as that is possible. I invite you to add a note to the English translation of the “Teufelsneurose,” in which you say that, at my express wish, you have added from your work the corrections you consider necessary.
I do not view my condition as optimistically as Eitingon does, but I readily admit that, apart from the continuing dissatisfaction with my prosthesis, I cannot complain about my health.
I received a letter and telegram from Rank informing me that he is making good progress in pacifying the analysts there and clarifying the situation for them. Rumor has it that he will still be returning this month.
It's time the Janus temple of your family ailments were shut.
With cordial greetings to you both.
Yours,
Freud
