Semmering, Villa Schüler
Dear Jones!
I was pleased to hear of your nice summer plans. This year we are enjoying our stay on the Semmering very much. You will not see me in Homburg.
I thank you for the kind welcome you extended to my son Martin. Your remark about his English being good is surely flattering.
Rank informed me that he will be here tomorrow, in order to discuss his Congress paper. Melanie Klein's works have been received with much skepticism and opposition here in Vienna. As you know, I myself don't have much of an opinion on pedagogical matters.
Naturally I have read your paper on matriarchy with interest. I was very pleased with your correction of Malinowski's statement about the sexual ignorance of his Australians. It is also in complete agreement with a remark of mine in Totem und Tabu.1
Some time ago I sent you several offprints of the “Selbstdarstellung” with the request that you send them to Lord Balfour and Lord Haldane. I have heard nothing more about this.
With cordial greetings.
Yours,
Freud
