Dear Jones,
I have now received the fourth volume of the Collected Papers, am very pleased that the work is completed, and thank you warmly for this achievement, the realization of which I had really doubted. I shall not be surprised if this book makes its influence felt only very slowly, but at least we did everything we could. The French translation of your Papers has not yet arrived.
This month we do not feel like writing a Rundbrief. Abraham's illness has us all holding our breath, and we are very unhappy that the news is so vague and therefore so uncanny. You doubtless know that the gallbladder operation has already been performed. But it showed nothing that might explain his pain and fever attacks. Dr. Felix Deutsch1 went to Berlin last Sunday. He will probably bring us as much enlightenment as is at all available now.
