Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
Dear Jones,
I am satisfied that the new book pleased you1 and, after the last discussion, am naturally prepared at once to concede the translation rights to Hogarth Press, if, as you promise, they do not delay publication indefinitely; but I prefer James Strachey as translator to anyone unknown to me. I already arranged the translation with him when he visited me at Semmering, and I have sent him a copy; unless he has reconsidered it since then.
Everything here is otherwise the same, except for news of the Rundbrief.
Cordially yours,
Freud
After the opening phrase here, the verb ziehe is crossed out in the original. Freud then employs vorziehen a little later to complete the sentence: “ziehe aber als Übersetzer James Strachey jedem Unbekannten vor” (but I prefer James Strachey as translator to anyone unknown to me).
