Dear Jones,
In the second half of April my heart, stomach, and bowels failed me so much that I actually went to the Cottage Sanatorium in Vienna. There I soon discovered that I had acquired a total intolerance to cigars, and, by giving up this long-accustomed pleasure, I procured a rapid and extensive improvement, which is lasting. Only my stomach is still not functioning without trouble. Otherwise I feel better than I have for a long time. Waiting for the new prosthesis will probably keep me in Berlin until after the middle of June.
