Dear Jones,
I am very happy about the proposed measures, which, I too believe, should make it possible to save the Verlag. If you wish to have a special
supervisory board appointed over its management, I have no objections. But I am opposed to Ophuijsen, who has the bad habit of burdening himself and others with disputes over formalities. Whereas the Verlag and the editors are together in Vienna, I think the supervisory committee should be international in composition and not contain a Viennese member, whose proximity might put him in an advantageous position. As members I suggest: you yourself, so as to look after the interests of the English publisher as well; Eitingon (if he will accept!!), Princess Marie, and an American, Brill as first choice.
I do not share your concerns about the Quarterly. The new organ will bind American PsA. closer to that in Europe, and compete significantly with the Ps. Review and Jelliffe's journal, which are really overflowing with psychoanalytic contributions. I too am sorry that no one informed you of the intended founding, but it shows how little the Americans feel themselves tied to England. A friendly agreement would certainly be very desirable.
Next time I will tell you about a new work that I have started to write.
Cordially yours,
Freud
