Dear Jones,
So I really have become For. Mem. R. S., a great honor indeed. A letter that arrived simultaneously from someone at St. John's College, Cambridge, whose name I read as “Jeffreys,” connects me with the person who proposed me. So now I know that your influence is behind it, and I thank you warmly. But I should also like to know who this J. is. Would you like to write me a couple of lines about this?
