Dear Professor Freud,
Many thanks for your cards.1 Too bad everything got muddled up. I crossed by the Hook of Holland after all.
I really cannot remember whether I have already told you that Sister Moltzer2 is reproaching herself for having painted too black a
picture of Frl. Boeddinghaus.3 Between the two ladies there is naturally a loving jealousy over me. Since I don't know just how much Frl. Boeddinghaus, who is really quite nice and appealing, has been blackened by Sister Moltzer's description, I don't know how to rehabilitate her. I can only say that she is still pretty much taken up with herself but now has a post with an American lady in Zürich, and is doing well by all accounts.
I was in England for one day only and saw Dr. Hart,4 who now holds a lectureship of psychiatry.5
I enclose a letter from Binswanger which will show you how matters stand here. Were I on my own and responsible only for myself, I would put Bleuler in his place and do what has to be done. But it is being intimated to me from all sides that Bleuler's loss would be dangerous. Naturally I don't want to harm the cause and am therefore prepared for any compromise. It is up to us to decide whether we shall tolerate the present situation. In any event I shall try to keep the joint sessions to a minimum. He has worked himself into a regular delirium of fear over Kraepelin since developing a resistance to me. Now he crawls on his belly before the German mogul. I think I told you in my last letter that Bleuler has earmarked 90 printed pages of the Jahrbuch for his apologia pro Freud. I am eager to read it and shall if necessary append a few editorial remarks (only with your imprimatur, of course).
So you see, the present situation is disagreeable and con
