Dear friend,
I am delighted at the cheerful tone of your letters and infer from it that mother and child are doing very well, though you have neglected to say so aloud. Pleased with everything you say, only in regard to Schottländer you do me an injustice. I kept him that time just to tease and punish him, and I only wish you could have been there to see him squirm. The old man has indeed worked his way brilliantly into the field, he understands almost everything. Strangely enough, he makes
