Dear Professor Freud,
Yesterday there was a meeting of our Society at which the case of Bleuler was discussed. We decided to “wait and see.” But nothing was decided about the gaggle of assistants that Bleuler trails behind him and with whom he professes his solidarity. A second important point was the criticism meted out to the Bulletin. Afterwards I took counsel with myself and have decided to suggest to you that we dispose of this abortion. We would never have begotten such a thing had we known that the Vienna people were bringing out a journal anyway and in addition were publishing the minutes of their meetings separately. With its limited funds the Bulletin can only make a very fatuous appearance and is pretty pointless because everything it contains might just as well be published in the Zentralblatt. The membership dues could then be considerably reduced. The Bulletin can never become a journalistic masterpiece in my hands, for I am not a journalist but am only carrying out my research work or what I regard as such. (Circulars are sufficient for communications of this kind, no Bulletin is needed.)
I also very much doubt whether I should continue to publish abstracts (i.e., complete lists of publications) in the Jahrbuch. I would prefer to stand aside and leave it to the Zentralblatt since it has taci
