22 December 1910, Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
Dear friend,
Just a few words in haste. I am assuming that you will not leave Tuesday morning if you arrive Monday evening. — I think it would be more dignified not to conceal from Bleuler that I am expecting you. He will be leaving Monday noon before your arrival or in the evening after it. In the latter—unlikely—event, the three of us could spend a few hours together. In any case I have booked rooms at the Park Hotel.
I am very glad that you see Adler as I do. The only reason the affair upsets me so much is that it has opened up the wounds of the Fliess affair. It was the same feeling that disturbed the peace I otherwise enjoyed during my work on paranoia; this time I am not sure to what extent I have been able to exclude my own complexes, and shall be glad to accept criticism.
Don't be dismayed if you do not find me in the best of health; it will do me good to see you.
