Dear Professor Freud,
I really do hope you didn't take my remarks about the third edition of The Interpretation of Dreams as disparaging criticism. I am convinced
that the book is far from becoming obsolete. We haven't even made a start with the renovations, at least I haven't. “Let him who made him bring near his sword,” as is said in Job.1 Even so, ten fruitful years have passed since 1900, and have assuredly brought many a problem nearer to you.
Your plan for the Zentralblatt is admirable. It would put an end to the schism with the Bulletin, condemned as it is to eke out a beggarly existence alongside the Zentralblatt. The greater part of the membership dues could be used for subscriptions to the latter. This could be arranged without further ado once I have sounded out the local groups. But first I would like to have your approval. There will be difficulties with America since not everybody there reads German. We would have to make subscription optional, and reduce the dues for those who do not take the Zentralblatt. Please tell me what you think about this.
Dr. Haslebacher2 is urging me to move the Congress to Locarno (where he spends the summer). Technically, accommodation could easily be arranged there, but Locarno is half an hour's journey from the Gotthard line,3 so that arrivals and departures would not be all that simple.
I suggest the Congress be held on Sept. 24th and 25th.
Congratulations on your elevation to the chairmanship! I was quite flabbergasted by the latest turn of events. Perhaps you will give me some more details about this rebellion in your next letter. Adler is becoming a menace. It is utterly irresponsible of Stekel to ally himself with Adler merely because they have the same complexes. What will become of the Zentralblatt if the wind blows from that quarter? Will you replace the editors?
I have been invited to lecture on Ψ A at the first Congrès International de Pédologie4 (August in Brussels)
