1003 Seestrasse, Küsnacht-Zürich,
[ca. 15 February 1912]1
Dear Professor Freud,
A quick word to let you know I am still alive. I am having grisly fights with the hydra of mythological fantasy and not all its heads
are cut off yet. Sometimes I feel like calling for help when I am too hard pressed by the welter of material. So far I have managed to suppress the urge. I hope to reach dry land in the not too distant future.
Maeder or Pfister will have told you all about Zürich and our public struggles. At the moment there's a lull in the feud. For autumn Forel has saddled us with his confounded Psychotherapeutic Society2 and is already threatening us with total annihilation. But so far we are not annihilated in the least and the Society flourishes as never before. Now the pedagogues have begun to move in. The director3 of the teachers' college in Bern was with me recently and wanted to collaborate. Zürich is seething, ΨA the talk of the town. One can see here how worked up people can get. On Feb. 21st I have to lecture on ΨA to the clinicians; even they are eager to taste the poison. I think all this is an earnest of things to come.
I hope all is well with you. With us everything is peaceful and serene and my wife is working conscientiously at etymology.4
With many kind regards,
Most sincerely yours, JUNG
