Internationale Psychoanalytische Vereinigung
Küsnach-Zürich, 22 March 1912
Dear Professor Freud,
The date of my military service has been settled at last: August 22nd-September 6th. Coincidentally I received an invitation from Fordham University, New York, to give a course of lectures1 from Sept. 10th on. I felt obliged to accept so as to gain yet more ground for ΨA. In these circumstances I suggest switching the Congress to August 19/20. It will then be certain to fall in the holiday season. Munich is central, within easy reach even of people spending their vacations further afield. I shall put the same suggestion to each of the local groups and see what they have to say. Please let me know your own views.
Frau Lou Andreas-Salomé's manuscript2 has arrived. It looks weird. I shall submit it to your judgment. Bleuler wants to withdraw a manuscript from Jahrbuch IV/1 because of “unfounded” anxiety-states (a Dem. praec. analysis).3 Burghölzli gets sillier every day. I was all the more astonished that Binswanger has sent his assistant there for training without giving him an opportunity to make the least contact either with me or with the Society.
We have introduced compulsory speaking in the Zürich Society as in Vienna because it was absolutely necessary. Often people just sit there like deadheads. Also, the lectures have become rather sloppy of late. I had to handle one gentleman very roughly. It has shaken them up.
Kindest regards,
Most sincerely yours, JUNG
