9 December 1912, Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
Dear Dr. Jung,
I “heard” from Bergmann today. Only a few sentences but I am quite satisfied. He tells me the Zentralblatt will no longer bear the official title. We all thank you for your successful handling of the matter. I incline to your argument that we have no proper contract on which to base our demands and will have your circular approved by our Society on Wednesday (11 Dec.). I repeat the offer I made in my telegram1 to pay half the ransom, so as not to bother our members.
At last I am done with this business and able to get back to work. The third “Points of Agreement”2 will be my next task. I dare say no more about your libido innovation now that you have made such fun of me for my discovery that it contained the solution to the riddle of mysticism. But I am very eager to read your English lectures. I hope they will meet with vigorous opposition on the part of our fellow analysts; my own opposition, even if it outlives my reading of the lectures, would be too self-evident to make an impression.
Your intention of attacking Adler's book has my entire approval.
