IX., Berggasse 19
Dearest friend,
It is a real pleasure to be able to carry on a discussion across this great distance. Only three comments. [1] Examined him standing up: yes, hand under the arch did not impress us. You will probably turn out to be right; we were focusing on a severe typical flat foot. [2] That I did not report on sensitivity to pressure on gastrocnemius and tendon — in fact it is severe — was merely an oversight of mine. (3) Claudication is not associated with limping but, according to Charcot's description, with paresthesias, cramps, and having to stop walking.
If only I knew what I could do to get the man to go to Berlin! I have not heard from him since then. If he is now trying other things, he is bound to go back on his own because no one can help him here in Vienna.
Well now, soon again here? Wonderful, but then an evening for just the four of us.
Cordial greetings.
Your Freud
