Prof. Dr. Freud
Dear Colleague,
I can only say: hurrah!1 So we have a rival for Franz Carl,2 but one whom you would count among the 3rd generation. You are a young father, and that is a very beautiful thing. Please convey the congratulations of us all to your wife. Incidentally, an announcement in the next few days will reveal that there has been something going on here as well.3
My curiosity about the contents of the Jahrbuch4 is also mounting considerably. The prospect you hold out of a visit from you is of course very welcome.5 We shall discuss your analysis6 and a host of related matters then.
I am most grateful to you for your information concerning the children requiring treatment. In the meantime, a second case has turned up which might conceivably be sent to your clinic for psychotherapy. It always takes parents a long time to make up their minds. But it is good to know about such things.
Please thank your father7 for his good wishes. I may perhaps be coming to Constance this autumn and shall be able to make his acquaintance there. I met your uncle at the Viennese Natural Scientists’ Congress in 1894,8 I believe.
Cordially yours,
Freud
Congratulations upon the birth of Binswanger's eldest son, Robert (1909-29) on 2 January 1909.
