Prof Dr. Freud
Dear Dr. Binswanger,
The few sombre words with which you informed me of your father's1 death were more eloquent than any oration. We who were less close to him will envy him the curtailment of his fruitless suffering and the quick, kind end; what this death means to his son we shall not try to guess out of respect and consideration. We know that it was his good fortune to have been successful in his work and to have left behind children like you That is no small achievement.
On behalf of my wife and children I would ask you to convey our condolences to your entire family.
A heartfelt handshake for yourself.
I still have no further details about the meeting in Munich, since Bleuler has not yet replied.
As ever, Freud
