Prof. Dr. Freud
Dear Dr. Binswanger,
I hasten to reply to your kind Christmas greetings, the only ones from our circle as it happens, and reciprocate with my best wishes for 1912 to you, your family and your clinic. I am quite sure you will live to see the recognition of psychoanalysis and that you will then be glad to have been among the rebels in your youth. Don't worry about me; I really have no wish to grow that old.
I should very much like to accept your wife's kind offer of hospitality some day, but as you know this is the time when I have to earn money to pay for all the holiday extravagances.
The goings-on in Zurich are annoying, but I know Bleuler too well to blame Jung for them. Things went no better with Breuer either; I was only too willing to be grateful but he did not want me to be.
Minor chores here,1 and unfortunately no time for the greater things that have been nagging me since the summer.2
Happy New Year!
Yours cordially
Freud
Regards to Stockmayer. Isn't there a good precedent for the ‘shackling’?3
