Prof. Dr. Freud
Dear Dr. Binswanger,
As an accompaniment to the book that has at long last been sent off today, I am including a copy of a letter from Jung1 that arrived yesterday (five weeks after mine to him):
Dear Professor Freud,
Until now I didn't know what to say to your last letter. Now I can only say: I understand the Kreuzlingen gesture. Whether your policy is the right one will become apparent from the success or failure of my future work. I have always kept my distance, and this will guard against any imitation of Adler's disloyalty.
Yours sincerely, J.
Despite its obscurity is this not a letter of virtual resignation?2 You will be the best judge as to what the ‘Kreuzlingen gesture’ is supposed to mean.
With kind regards,
