Prof. Dr. Freud
Vienna IX, Berggasse 19
Dear Dr. Binswanger,
In the concert of voices raised on my seventieth birthday yours could not be absent. Despite the fact that we have met so few times, we have shared many important experiences and you have always remained loyal to me and to my cause. I too shall not abandon the hope of seeing you and your charming wife again, but you will have to come to Vienna for I have given up travelling.
You are quite right about what Abraham's death meant to me. But if one lives as long as I have, one cannot always avoid surviving others.
Still, psychoanalysis is not my private property and will continue to exist even after I am no longer able to shape its fate. With kind regards,
Yours, Freud
