Prof. Dr. Freud
Dear Dr. Binswanger,
I thank you. You are right, the honour as such leaves me cold, but not insensible to its symptomatic value as evidence of the steady waning of resistance among psychiatrists.
Twenty, let alone thirty, years ago, recognition such as this of analysis, then still in its babyhood,1 would scarcely have made sense. I neither expected nor felt the lack of anything of the sort at the time.
When I get the official document I shall of course reply with a formal letter of thanks.2
Very cordially yours,
Freud
