The Südbahnhotel has the appearance of a large palace and is a built in an historic style, making it appear older than it actually is. According to Baedeker's Austria (30th edn., Leipzig 1926), it boasted more than 400 beds in 350 rooms, but today [1992] it is standing empty. It is indeed scarcely more than 100 metres from the Villa Schüler with its view of the Rax. Cf. Kos (1984), pp. 152-4.
