Vienna, at night

My sweet little woman
So you managed to get here first! Thank you so much for your dear letter which has just taken me by surprise. The post office must know I am back again. Everything here seems so strange; to think I am really no longer with you! It was so lovely and it will be lovely again and remain so-no, even lovelier.
I have a whole bag full of news for you, big news and little news, but it would be useless to try and tell you it all now. It's 11:30 and I am very tired, but not mentally; in fact I am very fresh and very happy. No despondency whatever, I feel nothing but infinite gratitude to you, you dear, auspicious one! To my surprise I feel quite gay, more courageous, I would almost say more magnanimous, than before. I know I will work hard, put up with all sorts of difficulties, and that for a long time I will consider myself richly rewarded by the memory of our time together.
