Rome
September 24, 1907
Very pleased with your card. I can imagine that the little cabinet came as a surprise. It is my present for you from my journey. A small mirror frame ought to have arrived, too. I am getting tired of traveling, plan to leave here on Thursday evening and to arrive on Saturday morning, depending on a few small purchases for which I am still negotiating. Just imagine my joy when, after being alone so long, I saw today in the Vatican a dear familiar face! The recognition was one-sided, however, for it was the “Gradiva,”1 high up on a wall. The weather is getting more and more glorious, the city more and more marvelous. Yesterday I handed in my linen to be washed.
Warmest greetings
Your
Sigmund
I'll start work again on Monday, the thirtieth.
