(Undated [1914])1
My dear Friends
These wretched times, this war, which impoverishes us as much in spiritual as in material goods, have prevented me from thanking you earlier for the clever and practical fashion in which you returned my little daughter2 and for all the friendship that lies behind it. She is very well, but I suspect she sometimes pines for the country of our enemies.
I was very pleased to hear via an obvious channel that all is well with you and that you are about to move into a new home, which I would like to bless with the most heartfelt good wishes for you both. Till we meet again, God alone knows when!
Your faithful
