Vienna IX, Berggasse 19
March 25, 1923
Dear Dr. Groddeck
First, my congratulations on The Id 1 being published at last. I like the little book very much. I believe it is very important to keep bringing home to people the fundamentals of psychoanalysis to which they are so inclined to close their eyes. The work moreover expounds the theoretically important point of view which I have covered in my forthcoming The Ego and the Id.2
Among the public, of course, it will arouse even more indignation and distaste than the excellent Seeker of the Soul,3 which compensated for its undesirable content by its artistic treatment. But I trust this response will not affect your self-confidence.
Cordial greetings to you and my lady translator.
Your
Freud
