Dear Professor Freud,
The manuscript has just gone back to you again. I have dealt with the Soma legend in a special chapter, and in the rest of it I have made the alterations about which I have already written to you. On the whole the work still has the character of a scientific treatise, whereas you would rather have the style of an essay. The difficulty is that actually there is a great deal in it that must first rest on a scientific basis before it is ready to be dealt with in an essay. I hope the work does not suffer too much from this. It now contains quite a number of examples, and this, I believe, will make it digestible for lay people also.
