Dear Colleague,
I thank you for so amiably accepting everything mentioned in my last letter, but I do not want to burden you with too much self-oppression and prefer to state that I owe you a debt that should be paid off one day.
You know it was not easy for me between you both. I do not want to spare either of you, yet I can actually let neither of you share my feeling of how much liking I have for the other. You would make it very much easier for me if you made friends with each other, or at least got along well together. It is just the fact that I find it easiest with you [and also with our colleague Ferenczi1 of Budapest]2 to come to an understanding that warns me not to concede too much to racial preference and therefore neglect the Aryan, which is basically more alien to me. I do not ask either of you to make sacrifices for me personally, but for the significant cause.
