Dear Professor,
When our colleague Dr Eitingon brought me your picture some days ago, I would have thanked you at once, had he not told me that there was the beginning of a letter to me lying on your table, which I would shortly be receiving. Now I can thank you for both at the same time. I was particularly delighted with the picture; it most faithfully mirrors your appearance seven weeks ago. It now stands on my working desk in a frame that accentuates it very well and surveys the coming into being of the “Dream States” with a critical eye. These are to be published in the next half-yearly volume.
Your new plans, of which Eitingon has already told me, make me curious. The neighbourhood of your Leonardo will, however, be slightly discomfiting for my Segantini. But written it certainly will be, and that as soon as possible. The letters and writings of Segantini, for which I have been waiting, have just appeared, and I think I will be able to start work in a week or two.
