Dear Professor,
I am replying today to your detailed letter of the 6th, assuming that you are now back in Vienna. I hope the short trip has brought you the desired rest. If you have received my card—but surely even if you have not—you will know how much I would have liked to come. But three days' travel so as to be there for a day and a half seemed too much. Many thanks once again for your telegram and card! I hope your “little one's” whooping cough has been as mild as our two “little ones'” measles.
To go on with the subject of travel—you suggested Lake Ossiach. I have only two reservations. Firstly, I do not know whether its low height above sea level will improve the children's health as much as the high mountain region; all other requirements seem to be splendidly fulfilled there. Secondly, my wife and I had set our hearts firmly on the Dolomites. These, admittedly, can be reached by rail in a few hours from there. So if we are there for some time, I might be able to have a tour of the Dolomites with my wife and leave the children there in the care of the governess.—Wolkenstein (Gröden) is especially recommended to us from various sides. Would you not be in favour of such an elevated place, or is there a health reason for the choice of lower height? Of course we shall comply with your suggestions as far as possible, only the above reservations because of the children are disturbing.
