Dear Friend,
Your last letter arrived unopened. Can the censorship have been reduced for you? The proofs you sent unfortunately arrived too late for me to use your suggestion. In any case I am glad that you have found something useful in this article too.
Little is happening in the intimate circle. Both young ones are writing industriously for money and good remittances. The practice has not risen above 21/2 patients. My wife went to Hamburg for a fortnight out of longing, for no particular reason, spending just one hour in Berlin. I am very rested, despite all burdens on my feelings physically very well, and am working very easily with a rested head, interrupted by attacks of laziness. The large case history is finished, it is waiting for you, if you really can come for Christmas. In addition I have begun a larger comprehensive work1 which has in passing produced the Ψα solution of the problem of time and space and the clarification of the mechanism of anxiety.2
Today van Emden sent me a long letter from Jones, from which it appears that he has difficulty in warding off the Jung disciples in the Association, which incidentally is fairly unimportant, as we have to start from the beginning in any case. He writes about the war like a real Anglo.3 There will have to be a few more Überdreadnoughts4 sent to the bottom or a few more landings made, otherwise their eyes will not be opened. An incredible arrogance has taken possession of the island. It is highly probable that Rank will become free at recruitment. With Sachs it is not yet certain.5 Ferenczi is striving for a transfer to Budapest. I should be very pleased to have a card from Liebermann. Landauer6 is, as we know, in Lille, behind the front line. The sentencing of the German army doctors by the French courts is one of the most disgusting farces of this war.
I send you my cordial greetings and hope that you and your family will continue to be well.
Your most faithfully devoted
