Dear Friend,
Thank you for so conscientiously keeping your promise. But in what are you not conscientious?
There is little to report from here. I am waiting with eager expectation for the return of Rank, who will probably not be in Vienna before the end of next month. I have been in lively correspondence with Ferenczi and would like you also not to lose contact with him. His behaviour in the “affair” was vacillating, but he is now retreating from his partisanship for R[ank].
I am thinking of breaking off my stay here in a week's time. Not without great regret, because the last few days have been magnificent. I, that is to say my prosthesis, is again under treatment to adapt it to changed conditions.
It is making severe demands on the unity of the personality to try to make me identify myself with the author of the paper on the spinal ganglia of the petromyzon. Nevertheless, it does seem to be the case, and I think I was happier about that discovery than about others since then.
In the autumn I shall have to give up the leadership of the Vienna group, because I am too tired in the evening to be able to follow a meeting lasting several hours, and my hearing works on one side only. I do not yet know what the group will do.
My best wishes for the German meeting!
With cordial greetings to you and your house,
