A most striking finding from the observations of the PRP subjects at Follow-Up Study was the very large amount of posttreatment therapeutic contact that they engaged in—whether formal psychotherapy, or some other broadly “supportive” or “therapeutic” ingredient, or some combination of ingredients fashioned by the ex-patients in their interactions with the helping world. Of the entire sample of 42 patients, in only 3 instances do we have no record of one or another kind of posttreatment “therapeutic” involvement (the Medical Scientist, the Manic-Depressive Physician, and the Intellectual Fencer, all among those with very good results).
