The patients are numbered here in the sequence in which they are designated in the book Psychotherapy and the Role of the Environment by Voth and Orth (1973). They are named in accord with the designations in the present book, most of which were devised by Horwitz for his book Clinical Prediction in Psychotherapy (1974). Where my designation has been altered—in ways that I feel have even more felicitously captured a salient identifying feature of a patient's personality functioning—from that used by Horwitz, the original designation by Horwitz is set in parentheses. The keying here permits accurate comparison of the same patients as considered in these three books.
