Dr. Tarachow discussed some clinical phenomena which he feels are too frequently neglected by both patient and analyst. Included under the heading of coprophagia
Tarachow illustrated the relationship of fetishism and other perversions to derivatives of coprophagia, and stressed the anal aspects in terms of the narcissistic relation to the stool.
In contrast to Winnicott's concept of the transitional object, Tarachow feels that in coprophagia and its derivatives we are dealing with a transitional relationship to part of one's own body, with the illusion that it has not been lost.
