Mary Brady appreciates Tom Wooldridge’s raising the contemporary and controversial topic of pro-anorexia online activity for psychoanalytic consideration. She comments on his application of the concepts of “potential space” and “psychic retreat” as applicable to some users’ involvement with these sites. She then applies an adolescent developmental lens to a consideration of the use of these sites, including the issues of identity, defiance and contagion.
