Summary: »… yet a high point of my life«. Freud on his way to Rome (1897-1901). Freud first travelled to Rome in the summer of 1901, although his wish to do so had manifested itself since 1897. Several authors have interpreted this delay as the result of an inhibition or even a »Rome phobia«. In contrast, the present paper relates it to Freud's friendship with Fließ.
