Summary: Walter Strub (1882-1938), reader and author of the Zeitschrift für psychoanalytische Pädagogik. A contribution to the reception of psychoanalysis. Walter Strub, founding member of the Swiss Communist Party, was from 1910 until 1938 head of the factory inspectorate of Basel (Switzerland). He made decisive contributions to the development of social and labour legislation in his native city and set guidelines for the training of apprentices. Strub was involved in the social and cultural developments of his times, not least in psychoanalysis. Being a friend of Hans Zulliger, he tried to apply psychoanalytic principles to his work with apprentices; he published a paper about this in the Zeitschrift für psychoanalytische Pädagogik. During a severe professional and marital crisis, both he and his wife, Margrit were in treatment with the Basel psychoanalyst Hans Christoffel. The Strubs can be seen as protagonists of the practical application of psychoanalytic ideas and sexual reform within the context of the labour movement of the early 20^th century.
