Summary: Leonhard Seif, the psychoanalytic scene in Munich before World War I and the conflict between Freud and Jung. This article examines the early psychoanalytical years of the neurologist and psychotherapist L. Seif , complemented by some information about the local context. In 1911, Seif founded the second IPA group in Germany; he continued his commitment to Freud's psychoanalysis up to 1913 when the 4th psychoanalytical congress took place in Munich. It was Jung who had brought him into the psychoanalytical community and with whom he at first shared his high appreciation for Freud. But from 1912 on when the conflict between Freud and Jung increased, Seif got caught between the lines. In the end, presumably out of personal loyalty, he took Jung's side and left the IPA together with him. Shortly afterwards, however, he turned to individual psychology, establishing an Adlerian group in Munich.
